The purpose of this blog is to critically analyse the problem of racial prejudice, and the discrimination faced by illegal immigrants, through the Hollywood film The Visitor (2008).
The problem of racial prejudice, and the discrimination is very much connected with the issues like: the indifference of bureaucratic power, the lost social identity of immigrants in the process of assimilation and acculturation, the game of power and privilege, the limits of white male privilege to the consequences faced by many illegal immigrants, and finally its implications on the safety of Muslim immigrants and on education.
All these issues are critically analysed, keeping in mind the theories like power and privilege (Johnson, 2018), Paulo Freire’s critical pedagogy (Shor, 1993), and deficit ideology (Gorski, 2011).
